Selling my wonderful business

I still feel a little bittersweet even though it has been nearly 6 years since I sold my dance studio to one of my employees.  I still love my dancers and miss them but I don't miss the hours & hours of paperwork and cleaning up after 500 students.

Coined "the little pink dance studio" by my friend & tap teacher, Gregory, it was extra cute on this rare snow day.  I still own the pink building but not the business.  I'm so happy I still have my non-profit ballet company which lives at our Theatre because without that connection to the magical world of ballet I would not have the pleasure of seeing a little Gingersnap present a bouquet to the Sugar Plum Fairy...

I am happy that Mr. Arnaz is SO generous with his technical ability.  He brings our productions to life inside our incredible theatre. And I'm so happy he is adored by our ballerinas.

I love classical music and tutus, flowers and tiaras.  I love seeing a little girl begin ballet and blossom into a real ballerina 10 years later.  Having the studio was a dream come true for me because Haley could come to "work" with me every single day when she was a little girl.  That's a mothers prayer.  And to say I am proud of Haley for learning to dance is the truth.  She's incredible.

Life is different now... and I like it!  I'm going to close the comment option on my blog for a while to save YOU the time it takes to comment.  Thank you for reading and hopefully enjoying my periodic vents, rants, feelings and mostly my Insights from the Magic Tutu.  Oh!  And I hope you like my new blog banner.

Kitchen Shower Caps

I don't remember when I stopped
using kitchen shower caps for leftovers
in favor of rolled plastic wrap.  When did
these practical covers become a thing
of the past?  How I could have forgotten
about them for more than 20 years? 
A tragedy of sorts. 

But there they were recently hanging in an
aisle in the market.  A treasure.  Their
practicality and re-usability brought me back
to Mom's kitchen where these little shower
caps were commonplace.  Makes me realize
how far we've drifted as a society with our
throw away mentality:
Use it once and throw it away.

They're washable, reusable, come in different
sizes and pretty darn cute too.  Seems like an
odd thing to write about on a lovely Sunday
morning but my mind is wondering where
else I've slipped in my commitment to be
KINDER to our precious Mother Earth.

A most beautiful life

Sending our Thanks to the High Heavens for
12 years with our most beautiful big boy
Mr. Bubbles who died a peaceful death
Tuesday night. 

Being only 12 years old, we were surprised
that he was the one to go being much younger
than our other cats.  

Guarding his family, minding his own 
business, giving Love and lapping up
whipped cream!  He had a good life.

What a pleasure it was to know you
Mr. Beautiful.  Kisses, love and mostly
thanks for giving us the privilege
of being your humans.

Desi & Mr. Bubbles ~ their last Christmas together

A safe journey to Kitty Heaven for our
most beautiful Mr. Bubbles who has
dwindled from 22 pounds to 8 pounds (sniff).
He's still alive but willing to go. 

A Little Haley Doll sat atop our tree this
year to remind us of all the Magic Tutu
represents ~ the Miracle of this
existence and the beauty of Life. 

Haley's present to me with a perfect
handwritten message.

but I wish she was still four...
so I could relive those beautiful
years with her once more.

Celebrating 60 years of I Love Lucy

We attended an event at the Paley Center in 
Beverly Hills to commemorate 60 years of
I Love Lucy. 

Desi and his sister, Lucie, were part of a 
panel that talked about their father's
music and the musical show Babalu
that they have performed in NYC,
Miami and Washington DC.

 After the panel they performed two 
songs from their father's repertoire ~
Old Straw Hat and Cuban Pete. 

 
Lucille Ball has been on TV Guide more than
any other celebrity and Desi was on the very
first cover of TV Guide.  All of the covers were
enlarged and displayed on a wall at the Paley
Center.  Here's a nice interview Desi & Lucie
did with TV Guide on Friday.  

On Friday morning we had breakfast at our 
favorite breakfast spot Il Fornaio.  Always
so happy to be with my two favorite people
in the world ~ Desi & Haley.

  seats averaged $100 each to sit and listen to him
  play the same music.
  
  This is a true story.
  Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the D.C. Metro Station,
  was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social
  experiment about perception, taste and people’s priorities.
  
  One possible conclusion reached from this
  experiment could be this:
  If we do not have a moment to stop and listen
  to one of the best musicians in the world,
  playing some of the finest music ever written,with one of the most beautiful instruments
